Mosquito Prevention Methods

without comments

Mosquitoes are insects that transmit disease-causing viruses and parasites from one person to another without getting disease themselves. They can carry deadly diseases such as dengue, malaria, etc. Only female mosquitoes are capable of drinking blood. Females do not take blood for their own survival, but they do require additional substances such as protein and iron to produce eggs. By drinking blood from one animal to another, they carry harmful bacteria.

There are numerous methods employed for mosquito control, but first we should have knowledge on their life cycle. There are four stages in mosquitoes’ life cycle: egg, larva, pupa, and adult or imago. Adult females lay eggs in stagnant water like salt-marsh, lake, and even in plastic bucket. The first three stages of life cycle take place underwater and last 5-14 days depending on temperature and mosquito species. The eggs hatch to become larvae, and then pupae. The adult mosquito emerges from the pupa as it swims at the water surface. Adult females can live up to a month – more in captivity – but most likely do not survive more than 1-2 weeks in nature.

Now, we all know that mosquitoes can survive and flourish in still water and dark sites. So maintain your house clean and free from still water that will be formed. Clean your drainage and pipelines on a regular basis. Make a point that there are no leakages.

Clean bodies of water near your area, remove all floating rubbles and garbages from the water. These garbages can provide a breeding area for mosquitoes. It is also useful to breed mosquito-eating fish in water to help control mosquitoes.

You can also use insecticides and mosquito repellants in case the mosquito trouble is too extensive. ask for help to your local municipality to undertake mosquito prevention program.
