How to get rid of flatulence and bloating
Bloating is caused when there is excessive gas formation in the stomach. Gas and other toxins accumulate in the bowels. It is an uncomfortable feeling and is usually accompanied by flatulence and belching. It may sound funny, but to many it is a serious condition.
The biggest cause of bloating is a faulty diet. When you have unhealthy eating habits, the toxins and pollutants you ingest with the foods you eat will begin to build up over time. If not taken care of it can lead to bowel obstruction, lactose intolerance and a host of other uncomfortable ailments.
Overeating causes bloating, certain foods can lead to the production of gas in the digestive tract, certain medications may also cause bloating. Also, the amount of air you swallow during eating will contribute to the amount of gas formed in the intestinal tract. Remember Grandma always telling you to chew your food? And dad always made you sit at the table and wouldn’t let you run off? They knew things you didn’t. The more you chew your food, the slower you eat, and the less you talk while eating, the less air you will take in and the less bloating you will have.
We all know what grease is like, it accumulates in your digestive system (just like pouring grease down a drain) along with the toxins and bacteria and it doesn’t all get eliminated from our system. Whatever is not processed just builds up.
Changing your dietary habits and eating healthier will help to alleviate bloating – and it will eventually clean out all that “sludge” that is making you uncomfortable. You can opt for a detox cleanse to quickly and painlessly clean out your system. It is bet to check with your doctor before doing this.
These toxins have been building up and they need to be expelled from the body. Drink more water – that is a natural way to start to cleanse the body of toxins.
And what about gas? We all do it, women get embarrassed by it, men seem to brag about it, kids get teased about it. Flatulence is caused primarily by the digestive system’s inability to absorb certain carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are difficult to digest, often requiring the very bacteria that produces the unwanted gas.
Intestinal gas arises from mixtures of biological chemicals in your digestive tract. As nutrients in our food are processed by the colon and other organs that filter out the waste before removing it as fecal matter, some foods get lodged in the colon where it begins to ferment and creates hydrogen and methane.
Foods such as bran, beans, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, onions, cauliflower, whole wheat flour, radishes, asparagus, bananas, apricots, pretzels and broccoli induce gas formation in the digestive tract. So do carbonated beverages and alcohol, as well as smoking; these also cause bloating. Enjoying several lighter meals during the day instead of 2 or 3 heavier meals will help to prevent bloating and flatulence.
There is so much talk today about introducing more fiber into our bodies. Fiber is needed for the health of our digestive system, but yet some high fiber vegetables and fruits may increase the amount of gas that is produced. If you are adding fiber to your diet for health reasons, start with small amounts so that your bowel gets used to it. This will lessen the increase of flatus. By adding fiber slowly to your diet, your body will return to normal within a couple weeks.
If you experience painful gas, pay a visit to the doctor to rule out any digestive problems.
Avoid the foods that trigger gas.
Chewing gum or sucking on hard candy will trigger gas.
If you are lactose intolerant you will have flatulence problems from dairy products. The enzyme lactase is needed to digest lactose (the type of sugar found in many dairy products). And you don’t have to be diagnosed as lactose intolerant to have problems with gas.
Enjoy smaller servings at meal time to avoid bloating and gas.
Enjoy some unflavored yogurt daily to eliminate bloating.
Peppermint tea is also another remedy for bloating. Enjoy a cup during or immediately after eating your meal. Boiling a couple bay leaves in water for 5 minutes and drinking while still quite warm will help to release excessive gas and prevent bloating. You can do the same thing with fennel seeds – steep in boiling water a few minutes and rink after your meal. do you like ginger? Chewing on ginger will help or soak some ginger leaves in lime juice and chew on those – or you can combine a teaspoon of lime juice with a teaspoon of powdered ginger to take car of flatulence and gas pains. If you are taking any blood thinners or on an aspirin regimen, avoid the ginger.
Some will take charcoal tablets to relieve gas while others will take antacids.
You can also exercise the gas away. Walking is excellent and so are calisthenics; certain yoga poses (hero, Head to Knee, Bridge) can also be performed to treat gas.
NOTE: If you are a bean lover – you can still enjoy beans and also cut out a good 90% of the gas problem be soaking beans for 12 hours before cooking.
