While there are a large number of reasons for back pain, this article will discuss a few that are not often addressed. When back pain victims think of what causes back pain, they often believe that all of a sudden, they make a quick and sudden movement or pick up a heavy object and their back goes out. While this may happen in some circumstances, it is far more likely that repetitive conditions leading up to a sudden traumatic injury have much more to do with the pain than the proximate cause itself.
First of all, individuals who have static postures for elongated periods of time will produce compression forces on their spine and discs. These types of postures can greatly increase the forces on the lower back and the longer they need to be held, the more likely it is that chronic discomfort or injury will be the result. This is especially true if workers are forced to perform tasks in a posture with a flexed trunk type bending over posture. There is a greater risk and higher incidence of developing back pain over time.
Another cause of low back pain is simply sitting down while working for long periods of time. Long-term sitting postures at the workplace have a tendency to lead to chronic back discomfort. People who sit down hunched over a computer for 8-10 hours every day are asking their lower backs to perform functions for which it was not designed. Just getting up and extending the back with a stretch periodically throughout the day can help prevent long-term pain.
A very little-discussed cause of back pain is back pain due to vibration. This is especially true if it is occurring when in a seated position. These vibration forces are unpredictable and challenge the body’s ability to stabilize the spine. Sitting in a car or on the bus or train for several hours a day while commuting to work can cause stress on the spine and connective tissues. Over time, sitting while vibration is going on can lead to chronic back pain, even though the cause and effect may never be linked.
At New Century Spine Centers in San Diego, these causes of back pain are regularly treated by the chiropractors and spinal decompression doctors. Everyone should consider these causes of back pain. Avoiding back pain is important. Knowing what causes back pain is the first step to preventing back pain.
Chiropractic Doctor In Mission Valley Recap Studies Showing Anti-Depressants Are No Better Than Placebo
As a chiropractic physician in the city of San Diego, I see many patients suffering from back pain to stress. Researching some of the latest studies help me help my patients in many ways. Since depression is a common factor for pain, I find this article fitting.
Napoleon Hill, author of the self-help bible “Think and Grow Rich”, is quoted as saying: “What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” He also said we become our dominant thoughts. Research is showing he may be 100% accurate with those statements… especially the latter. Here is why: Starting in 1998, studies began to raise questions about the “scientific proof” behind the widespread use of Anti-depressants versus placebos.
University of Connecticut researchers, Irving Kirsch and Guy Sapirstein, found Anti-depressants seemed to get results, but so did placebos. In 38 studies conducted with over 3,000 depressed patients, placebos improved symptoms 75 percent as much as legitimate medications.
During an interview with Newsweek in 2010, Kirsch remarked “What’s going on?” The medical community was skeptical of his findings, asked him to redo a more comprehensive study with the results of all clinical trials conducted by antidepressant manufacturers, including those unpublished – 47 studies in total.
Over half of the studies showed no significant difference in effects from the Anti-depressants versus sugar pills. With this more thorough analysis, which now included strategically unpublished studies from pharmaceutical companies, placebos were shown to improve symptoms 82 percent as much as the medicated pills.
According to the Citizens Commission on Human Rights International: “However, if experts and antidepressant manufacturers are aware of this, the general public certainly isn’t … Millions of people every year feel better, simply because they believe they are feeling better.”
The spinal cord is a simple arrangement of bones and cushioning discs between them. However, the nerves these bones are protecting can be affected when there is a problem with those bones or discs. One of these problems is herniated discs.
Back injuries are the common cause of discs becoming herniated. Aging can also help discs to get weak enough for them to move out of alignment more easily from constant strain on the back. When these discs affect the nerves, the pain can be varied.
Aging causes a loss of elasticity in the spinal disc tissue. Once this is lost, injures to them can be a lot more likely to happen. Some people begin feeling shocking pains going down their legs or into their arms. The area of your back injury will determine whether you have leg or arm pain.
Back pain due to dislodged discs comes from the nerves near being pinched. This can mean severe pain in some cases in addition to muscles weakness. The nerves are the messengers from the brain telling muscles when and how to move. If they are interrupted, it will show up in muscle weakness.
In many cases, treatment for troubling discs is done with medications to relieve the pain. Physical therapy for strengthening the muscles in the spinal area is also an option. Your doctor may advise you to get as much rest as you can and limit the activities that are strenuous. Applications of ice and heat may also be advised.
One a person has reached an intolerable level of pain, surgical intervention may be required. The procedure called discectomy may be the only way to alleviate pain. This surgery involves removing the particles and fragments of disc that are causing the nerve pain. Many patients have reported to have no pain after the healing process is over.
The first thing you present to others is your face so it is only normal that you want it to look its best. This day and age there are thousands of methods that promise to give you that youthful look but they are not consequence free. Facial acupuncture (a.k.a. cosmetic acupuncture) is a non-surgical and essentially painless procedure that reduces signs of aging.
In order to balance your body’s energy, specific acupuncture points will be uniquely chosen for you each session based on your own constitution. The goal of each session is to help the whole body look and feel younger through assessing the physical, mental, and emotional patterns that cause ailment and encourage the aging process. It is more than possible that there is a constitutional imbalance causing you to age in the ways that you are if it seems you are doing so in such a way that feels and looks unhealthy. Once balance is restored, you will begin to look more radiant and feel healthier. In addition, points will be placed superficially on your face, concentrating on any problem areas that you may have. The stimulation received will increase Qi and blood circulation in the face. This will improve muscle tone and even out skin color. Also this will stimulate the production of collagen and elastin improving overall skin durability and resilience.
Facial acupuncture yields many results. These include diminished lines and wrinkles of the face, softer and smoother skin, and a more even skin tone which is all due to an increase in collagen production. Facial puffiness will be reduced also, as well as a diminishing of bags from underneath the eyes. Pores will be tightened up so acne, rosacea, and other dermatological ailments can be eliminated. Also, facial color and muscle tone will improve, there will be a reduction in the jowls creating a firmer jaw line, and the eyes will be brightened.
The general principle of Facial Acupuncture is that beauty comes from within. Because of that, each treatment is an overall rejuvenation of your health as well as your appearance. You may experience additional benefits from the treatments such as improvements in Insomnia, Depression, Anxiety, Hot flashes, Digestive Symptoms, Chronic pain, Reduction in PMS or menopausal symptoms.
Facial acupuncture could be exactly what you are looking for, if your searching for a natural way to rejuvenate your look while still maintaining the essence of who you are. Visit New Century Spine Centers in Southern California for more info.
First do no harm. That’s one of the most basic and important concepts in the practice of medicine. But in this day and age, profit seems to have taken that age-old motto’s place …Even when it comes to our children. The Associated Press reported that “Very young children simply should not take some commonly used cold and cough medicine federal health officials say in recommending that the “consult your physician” advice to parents on the labels be dropped. The preliminary recommendation, from Food and Drug Administration safety officials, would apply to decongestant use in children under 2, and antihistamines in those younger than 6, according to agency documents.
According to an Associated Press article: “Those officials, joined by the American Academy of Pediatrics, cite evidence that suggests the drugs are not only risky but also don’t work in the very young. The more than 350 pages of documents are part of a broad and ongoing FDA examination of whether the roughly 800 medicines, many popular and widely used, are safe and effective in treating children’s colds and coughs.” The FDA review came in response to a petition filed by Baltimore city officials who say many of the over-the-counter cold and cough medicines can harm toddlers and pre-schoolers.
The basic question to be considered is why a product should be so relentlessly marketed when it’s not safe or effective. It does not make much sense, especially in the absence of information, to say ‘consult a physician,’ because they do not have superhuman powers. They cannot make a product safe or effective when it is not. Here is something else to consider. The Consumer Healthcare Products Association represents the makers of over-the-counter medicines. They support not using these cold and cough medicines in children under the age of two. The association’s president, Linda Suydam, said they recommend adding a warning that the drugs not be used to sedate young children.
Wow. It’s a sad state when labels stating THAT has to be added and is not common sense to most parents. But in many parents’ defense — society has been BOMBARDED with brilliant marketing campaigns that make these drugs sound safe and effective. And even beyond that – flat out miracles. That being said… check out what Dr. William Campbell Douglass II, M.D. has to say about the issue: “I grumble about the incompetence of today’s parents a lot. It’s no secret that I think new-fangled ‘diseases’ such as ADD and ADHD are nothing more than kids being kids – and parents NOT being parents. I shudder to think that the future of this great nation is going to be largely in the hands of children who were diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder and have been dependent on drugs nearly from infancy.
Newsflash: It doesn’t work that way. “Still, that hasn’t stopped a portion of the population from drugging (yes, drugging – let’s call a spade a spade) children with allergy or cold medicines whenever it was convenient. But if the ethical concerns weren’t strong enough to make these people think twice, maybe the safety concerns will. “Something I haven’t spilled much ink over – but that is equally deserving of ridicule, in my eyes – is the absurd action of sedating children with OTC cold and allergy drugs. It’s a whole new level of irresponsibility and selfishness on the part of parents, caregivers, and anyone else who thinks children should come with an on/off switch.
“Brand names that have become the standard treatment for children – drugs such as Toddler’s Dimetapp, Triaminic Infant, and Little Colds – were placed on the market before the FDA tightened its pre-market testing standards. The main compound in Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is under inspection for the same reasons. “The sedation issue has brought about the long overdue examination of certain cough and cold medicines for children THAT WERE NEVER ADEQUATELY TESTED in children. It’s a dirty little secret, but now pediatricians and health officials are finally bringing it to light.
“This will likely come as a shock to most parents. After all, the drug companies are allowed to market the cough medicines for children. This occurs even though no studies have been done showing that they’re safe or effective!” This article is not endorsing or condemning the statement. What it does endorse is open discussion on the subject. You have to admit, it is something to think about. Especially when you take these facts into account: An FDA review of side-effect records filed with the agency between 1969 and September 2006 found 54 reports of deaths in children associated with decongestant medicines made with pseudoephedrine, phenylephrine or ephedrine. It also found 69 reports of deaths associated with antihistamine medicines containing diphenhydramine, brompheniramine or chlorpheniramine.
Most of the deaths were children younger than 2. The CDC found that in 2004 and 2005, over 1,500 children less than 2 years old had to be taken to the hospital after taking a common cough and cold medicine. Three of them died. And in Maryland alone (where the petition to review the safety and efficacy of cough and cold medicines originated), 900 children under 4 years old overdosed on these medications in 2004, and in the last 5 years such drugs have been linked to 4 deaths. Also on September 28th, the FDA gave drug companies until Oct. 31 to stop making and selling any unapproved prescription medicines labeled for use by children younger than 6 that contain the painkiller and cough suppressant hydrocodone.
Visit New Century Spine Centers in San Diego or visit their website at www.BackCareTreatment.com to get more information. Manufacturers of any other unapproved hydrocodone medicines, beyond those intended for young children, must stop making them by Dec. 31 and cease shipping them by March 31, 2008, the FDA said. It said the order applies to most of the hydrocodone formulations sold as cough medicines. And according to Dr. Douglass, “Manufacturers claim that the drugs are safe when they’re used on the proper age group (6 years old and up) and with the proper dosage.” But do they even know what constitutes proper dosage? According to Dr. Charles Gangley, the Director of the FDA’s Office of Nonprescription Drug Products, most dosages listed on these labels are no more than EDUCATED GUESSES. He said, “We have no data on these agents of what’s a safe and effective dose in children.” My advice: We’re talking about children here, infants and toddlers. So first things first: Let’s worry about SAFETY first and get to effective from there.
Chiropractors in San Diego reveal back pain relief secrets that more should know about. Everyone wants to know a good secret. This is especially true when it comes to a back pain relief secret. But the question is can you keep a secret or not? I hope not, because the secret that chiropractors are about to reveal should be shouted from the rooftops. Here is why. Have you ever heard of the ultimate fighting championship?” With its sudden rise in popularity years ago, you probably have. And I bet many still think it’s some ultraviolent bar-room brawl with sadistic, blood-thirsty fans. But that is far from the truth.
Well, that opinion may have been justified many years ago when the legendary Gracie family first started The Ultimate Fighting Championship in the United States. At that time, the Gracie family believed their brand of martial arts dubbed, “Gracie Jiu-jitsu” to be unbeatable. They were well known in Brazil for The Gracie Challenge. As the legend has it, one of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu’s originators, Hellio Gracie, often ran newspaper ads in Rio De Janeiro requesting anyone who wanted broken arms, legs and ribs to simply show up at his marital arts academy!
Shortly after coming to the United States, one of Hellio’s many sons’, Rorion, sent shock waves through the mixed martial arts world by announcing he would fight any man to the death for $100,000 in an early 90′s magazine interview. Rorion was also the mastermind behind the original Ultimate Fighter Championship that pitted fighters from many different fighter styles against each other with basically no rules in a fenced-in “cage” called “the octagon.” The Graicies wanted to prove to the world their fighter style was the best. And after Rorion’s skinny little brother, Royce, quickly dismantled all his opponents – some out-weighing him by over 100 pounds – they had proven their point.
It didn’t take many of those “no rules” fighter tournaments before local governments stepped in and outlawed the event in most states. Since that time, however, that “shock event” has turned into a legitimate sport with sanctioning bodies and rules to protect the fighters. It has also attracted some of the best athletes in the world such as former professional football players, Olympic Gold Medalists in Wrestling and Judo, Professional boxers and many others. Because the fighters must be accomplished at so many different fighter arts and skills (Brazilian Jiujitsu, Kickboxing, Wrestling, Thai Boxing just to name a few), many think ultimate fighters are the ultimate athletes in the world.
Why am I telling you all this and what does it have to do with relieving back and neck pain? As you can imagine, Ultimate Fighting also puts ultimate stress and strain on your spine. These athletes are constantly picking up opponents, punching, kicking and twisting themselves into a pretzel. And because of that, back pain is very common. So how do these fighters keep themselves training and fighting pain-free? Read more to discover that a big part of it is chiropractic care by chiropractors.
Here’s how. During the final show in the second season of the hit Spike TV series “Ultimate Fighter,” the heavyweight winner, Rashad Evans, took the time to thank Chiropractic Care. This was for relieving his back pain and allowing him to fight that night! And the surprising thing is… THIS WAS NOT A PAID ENDORSMENT!!!
Even more amazing, Former Olympic Greco-Roman wrestler, Randy Cotour is the former world heavyweight champion. What’s so amazing about that? He was 43 years old! Whether you agree with this sport or not, can you imagine being in good enough physical condition to be able to step into a cage and fight another person… half your age? And not only that… be the best in the world? I have heard and read several interviews with Randy. What does he credit for his mind-boggling success and what seems to be his fountain of youth? He always mentions three things that are Diet, Hard training and Chiropractic care
Just about every ultimate fighter I looked into was under routine Chiropractic care. So what? You don’t know who any of the “ultimate fighters” are. I thought you might say that, so I’ve compiled a little list of athletes and celebrities you will recognize. All have the money and resources to choose any treatment their little heart’s desire. Yet, they all have chosen to be under Chiropractic care. They are Wayne Gretzky, Evander Holyfield, Rocky Marciano, Joe Montana, Sylvester Stallone, Robin Williams, Whitney Houston, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Muhammad Ali, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Alec Baldwin, Richard Gere, Anthony Robbins, and more.
And this is a very small sample of the entire list I have put together. It’s really amazing. And here’s something to think about: I wonder how many athletes and celebrities that get paid to endorse a drug or similar product were actually helped by Chiropractic or another alternative without the deep pocket to pay for testimonials? Who knows? I guess that’s a secret…Final thought for this month: I’m not saying you are going to be able to step into the octagon and fight a 20-year-old kid if you are under Chiropractic care. But, if routine Chiropractic care is how the best athletes in the world relieve their back pain and function at elite levels… don’t you think it could help your back pain and the quality of your life?
I would guess that at one point or another you have had some type of pain in your body. This is a pretty safe assumption. I would bet that you have also had some kind of problem that was brought on by something very minor. Let me give you an example. You wake up in the morning and walk into the bathroom and as you go to squeeze the toothpaste out of the tube you drop the lid on the floor. So you bend down to pick it up and zap, lightning sharp pain shoots up your spine and back down again. You try to stand up straight but for some reason it feels like someone is pressing against your back causing you to hunch over and making it impossible to straighten up.
Here’s another example of a typical pain invoking experience. You rush out the door because you are late for an appointment. As you settle into the car you remember that you forgot your keys so you hurry back into the house retrieve them and return to the car. As you start the engine and turn your head to back out of the driveway, you injure your neck. It feels like someone stuck you with a hot barbecue poker in the back of the neck causing you great difficulty to return your head to a normal position without feeling that searing pain that we all enjoy.
So in your case it may not be a toothpaste lid or the turning of your head that provokes you to fall to your knees in agony. I am almost certain though that you have experienced a similar type situation in which the action you performed such not have caused a great deal of pain. There are a few different responses that one may have to this type of situation. Before we talk about those, let’s just get real philosophical for a moment in this case.
If you were hanging out with Hippocrates right now at the local Starbucks sipping on a Latte and talking about life and science and the human experience, how do you think he would respond if you asked him if it was normal for the body to respond like yours did when you bent over to pick up that heavy toothpaste lid or when you whipped your head around to back the cart out of the dirt road. I would guess that he would first ask you what toothpaste was and then once that was cleared up he would tell you an absolute no. This is not a normal physiological response for your body to such a minimal action that occurred to it. The reaction does not equal the action in this case. Okay, philosophy class being over let’s get back to how you would respond to this situation. Here are 5 common mistakes that I have observed from patients all over the world who experience these types of situations.
First, I put a hot pack on the area and it felt great. I am not against hot packs but here is the situation. When you have a new injury you should generally not put heat on the area. Heat opens up the blood vessels which are already engorged even more causing more swelling and fluid accumulation in the injured area. This will result in relaxation for up to 12 hours after heat use and then pain worse than the initial event after the initial pain reduction has ended. There are exceptions but for the majority of people please resist the urge to use heat unless I’ve told otherwise.
2. I thought it would go away but it has been two to three weeks and the ache hasn’t stopped. Ouch, this one is not good! The real question from me to you is why you thought that the ache would go away. Let me give you a simple analogy. Pretend the oil light on your car goes on, would you continue driving until it went out and just assume that the problem went away. I hope not. This is the best analogy that I can think of to relate to the ache signal that your body is sending you. Don’t pretend there isn’t something wrong. Get to the cause of the problem. Come get adjusted by a chiropractor immediately or as soon as possible after the initial event.
3. I don’t know why this happened, I am totally healthy, and there is nothing wrong with me. This is my favorite one from males. Guys, we have to admit to some facts. Women are much better at taking care of themselves then we are. The reason is because they are willing to tell someone when they aren’t feeling well and then they try to get help for it. Generally speaking, men are much more willing to put up with little problems that they experience. This is not good in the long run. One little crisis + one little difficulty + one problem = One BIG PROBLEM. The proof is that women tend to live something like 4 years longer than men. Surprise, surprise, I wonder if we men just think Oh well we aren’t going to live as long anyways so why not just put up with what we got and die sooner. This is of course some faulty logic because if we did take care of ourselves we would live longer.
4. I know that I only need one or two adjustments and everything will be fine. The only man I know in history who performed one treatment on someone and they were fine was Jesus. I am not Jesus. I don’t know any chiropractors named Jesus. Normally when people tell me the chiropractor fixed them in one adjustment and I look in their files, or consult with the other chiropractors I see that they have been adjusted 4 times on the low end and 8-10 on the high end (normal, about 6 visits) for an acute problem. My goal is to see you out of pain as quickly as possible so that you can function normally, but my goals do not end there! This leads me to the next common mistake.
5. Not getting adjusted by a chiropractor regularly to prevent these occurrences in your life. Now I am not saying that if you get regular adjustments your life is going to be perfect. Life is not perfect. I myself get regular adjustments. I don’t stop getting adjusted all together because I know that if I didn’t get regular adjustments and a flare up occurred, it would be a lot worse than it normally is. Our bodies are not perfect but if we work preventatively to keep things moving and aligned throughout the course of our lives a lot of these irritating aches could be avoided.
The joints of your spine are some of the key messengers of your nervous system. If they are not working there is no way for you to know because you cannot see them. Pain is your only signal and by then a lot of times it is already too late. Chiropractors are trained to detect problems with these joints and help prevent the pain before it occurs.
Science has proven that nerve endings are all affected during a chiropractic spinal adjustment. The goal of chiropractic treatment is to get you out of pain first of all, but to keep you pain free and fully functioning is the main idea. Chiropractic doctors want to work with you to develop a healthy body which is firing on all cylinders so that you have a nervous system which is quick, alert, strong and ready to fight off any dilemmas that you might encounter throughout the day. This is what regular chiropractic spinal adjustments do. They help keep your central nervous system strong and healthy and give you the ability to live a better quality of life as far as your health is concerned. My desire is that you would all experience life and health to the fullest.
Research is proving a new treatment for back pain. This treatment for back pain has over 30 scientific studies and is published in Medical Journals. It has led to the conclusion that the average patient receiving this treatment is better off than 54-85% of the patients receiving other common and accepted back pain treatments.
What’s more, 14 of these studies showed this treatment costs less and were up to twice as effective. 17 studies showed a decrease in disability at work and less back pain symptoms. The worst part is that many of these studies were done in the 80′s! So what is this treatment and why haven’t you heard about it yet? Better yet, why isn’t this treatment plastered all over the front pages and headlining the nightly news? How could something this good and proven to be this good be kept out of the spotlight for so long?
The answer to these questions and more will follow. First off, we have to look at the real facts about back pain. Here are some shocking low back pain statistics: 1) Eight to ninety percent of all adults will suffer from low back pain at some point in their life. 2) Low back pain is the leading cause of disability in people under forty five years of age. 3) Low back pain is the second leading cause of visits to the doctor. 4) Low back pain is the third leading reason for hospital admissions. 5) The annual cost of back pain in the United States range from $20-$75 billion, and as much as $100 billion worldwide. 6) According to Met Life Insurance statistics, the average back treated medically without surgery costs $7,210, and the average back treated with surgery costs an astonishing $13,990, and 7) Statistics indicate that fifteen to twenty percent of the population has low back pain in any given year, approximately twenty three million cases.
Here is the question that you have to consider. Do all epidemics kill or is it coincidence? The answer of course is no, and it’s a good thing that they don’t. If all of them did kill, most of us would be dead from back pain epidemics.
Before we get to the best treatment, we will talk about other common treatments and the facts about how good they really are. The first to discuss are anti-inflammatory drugs. They are also known as NSAIDs. Examples of these drugs are Tylenol, Motrin, Aleve and Advil. They are often the first and most common treatment for back pain. Two prominent medical doctors had a lot to say about these drugs.
The first was Dr. Julian Whitaker, M.D.. He reported saying that in our attempt to escape the throbbing of an occasional headache, the muscular ache of being a weekend warrior, Americans spend over six and a half billion dollars each year on prescription and over the counter pain relievers. And we do this at tremendous cost to our health. The side effects are that these drugs can damage the stomach, liver, kidneys, and even some of the tissues they are designed to support. Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs which are sometimes taken on a daily basis by arthritis sufferers, may speed up degeneration of the joint by restricting cartilage synthesis and speeding up cartilage destruction.
Dr. Joseph Mercola is a medical doctor. He is in the Department of Health Policy and Management of John’s Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. He stated that researchers say aspirin and related drugs kill almost as many people every year as the disease AIDS. They are responsible for a silent epidemic. Approximately twenty six billion over the counter pills are consumed each and every year. The number of deaths caused by medicine is very big. There is even some research that estimates that approximately sixteen and a half thousand deaths occur every year in the United States from ulcer related complications associated with their use. Suppose those deaths were given their own category. The toxic effects of non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs would amount to the fifteenth most common cause of death in the United States. Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs just may be the most dangerous drugs that medicine uses because of their widespread use. As a whole group, it may be very likely that they amount for the largest amount of deaths of any drug group. The conclusion about non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs is that they kill sixteen and a half thousand people every year and damage the joints they were designed to fix.
The next treatment is surgery. I’m just going to give you ONE statistic about surgery. Why only one? After you read it, you will know. According to the official Clinical Practice Guidelines put out by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, “surgery has been found to be helpful in only 1 in 100 cases of low back problems. Even having a lot of back pain does not, by itself, mean you need surgery.”
So according to this statistic, If only one percent of back problems are helped with surgical intervention, is it really worth the risk associated with it? Just to consider a few of the risk there are infection, paralysis and even death. This is something that a person with back pain should seriously consider.
Unfortunately, that was the bad news. But with all bad news there is usually good news. Many of the studies I talked about show chiropractic care to be the best, safest and least expensive treatment for back pain. Since you might not believe it coming from a chiropractor in San Diego, I’m going to give you one more thing to consider. This quote is from the well respected Pran Manga, PhD. Dr. Manga is a medical economist from Ontario Ministry of Health who studied this subject very thoroughly. The conclusion was that there is an overwhelming amount of evidence indicating that chiropractic care of low back pain is more cost effective than well known medical care. Chiropractic care of low back pain is greatly superior to medical management in terms of scientific validity, safety, cost-effectiveness and patient satisfaction rates.
There you have it. The only problem is, Dr. Manga published his findings back in 1993. So why haven’t you heard this before? The easy answer is profit!
Take a look at the stats again. The average “medical non-surgical back” costs $7,210. The average “surgical back” costs $13,990. And remember, $6.6 billion is being spent every year on drugs. That’s the real bottom line. After all, whose commercials pay for the news you watch every night anyway?
So next time your back hurts, or you have a sore neck, or you are feeling a headache, here’s something for you to consider. Be sure to try chiropractic first, drugs second, and surgery as a last resort!
